MMA/Sparring
For those who are interested in expanding on techniques learned in our Shizen-Do class, or just interested in learning a mixed style of self defense, our sparring classes are open to young students from 10 years old through adults. Students learn both techniques from a stand-up kickboxing perspective and a from a ground-level grappling perspective. The ultimate goal of the student is to be able to spar and grapple in a controlled and firm, yet relaxed manner so as to give their training partner a challenge but avoid unnecessary injury. Basic padded equipment is worn so that practitioners learn the highest level of control and focus.
While some techniques are also taught in our Shizen-Do class, many techniques are unique to the sparring class. Regardless of what the student knows or uses in practice, they will always be encouraged to discover how to “flow” from one technique to another in any circumstance.
Egos are checked at the door as students are taught how to work with each other, and that when training we should build our techniques upward and not break our bodies down with injury.
